Turkey Day Truths
Beloved Friends & Sad, Lurking Idiots,
Since it's once again time for the freakin' holidays, I felt it appropriate to share a few lines that sum up the real "Reason for the Season" much better than any faux diety or the generic false piety towards one's fellow man so rampant in the lesser minds of . . . well . . . lesser minds. While I certainly hope each of you has a relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving, I hope you'll keep these Truths in mind while you're sitting across the dinner table from your obnoxious children, siblings, parents, or other brutally overrated relatives.
This Be The Verse
---philip larkin, 1971They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats.Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.
Your bastion of Truth, Beauty, and the Any-Way-but-the-American-Way,
---the PseudoLatino
